How to Wear Sequins & Sparkle Anytime, Anywhere.
There used to be a day when sequins were only adorned for New Years Eve parties, holiday gatherings, and special evening celebrations. Restricting our sparkling and shining attire to non-frequent and very specific events and forcing us to store our eye-catching and dazzling pieces to the back of our closets for 90% of the year. Then the year 2018 came along, and we said, NO MORE. No more shall sparkle be dulled. Sequins, glitter, and shine were declared for anytime, including day time. Sounds shocking, I know, but who am I to question the designers/fashion big wigs who decided that it be so? Although the real puzzler for most people is HOW to actually wear sequins/sparkle in everyday attire. I've put together several looks with a classic cut pencil skirt covered in sequins that is sure to impress and keep you on trend all year long.
Pattern Mixing: Floral
Pattern mixing is bigger than ever this year, with floral as one of the most popular prints to mix, match, and get funky with! This year, the bolder the better! Along with the sparkle, sequined pieces also have a sort of pattern of their own, so I then paired the skirt with this reversible top from White House Black Market. One side is floral and the other side is leopard, so you can wear it either way! What I really love is how the leopard peeks out on the floral side! Below is a great going out look, but add a lower heel and a red, black, or pink blazer, and you could easily go to a luncheon, brunch, or baby shower!
Pattern Mixing: Stripes
Stripes are another must-have print to mix and match this season. Neutral stripes, like the black and white ones below, are especially easy to style with. They go perfectly with skirt, along with my black bomber. And I added a pop of color with my pink glitter spike bag! I actually transformed an existing Kate Spade bag by adding the glitter and spikes. I've put this look with my favorite shoe in the whole world, my Christian Louboutin Pina Spike heels, but you can style with flats and wear this with friends on a casual night out!
The Classic Blazer
Never rule out your classic blazer for any look. It's timeless! Here I've paired a simple lavender shell with my skirt and black blazer. My blazer has some zippers but you can style with a regular one as well. Any kind of purple color is a great way to update your wardrobe this year, since Ultra Violet is Pantone's color of the year. Any color from lilac to royal purple is in, in, IN! This look will wow him on your date night out. Or if you work in a less conservative work environment, you could rock this at work with a lower pointed toe pump.
The Graphic Tee
Graphic tees are here to stay. Very on trend and a great way to show your personality! I'm a sucker for black shirts with colorful prints for my graphic tee, but any graphic tee would look great! A favorite band tee, graphic art, or even one with a quote gives this skirt a powerful punch. One of my tees is Cody Johnson and the other is a throwback to one of my favorite movies of the 90s, A Goofy Movie. So don't be afraid to get creative with your choices. These are great looks for a girls night out!
Until next time,
Wear it out!
